S<\/span>till in its infancy, stem cell therapy is not yet a recommended course of treatment for erectile dysfunction. However, as the science evolves and matures, it may emerge as a viable treatment modality.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Stem cell therapy may someday hold the key to a cure for erectile dysfunction. Sadly, that day is not yet here.\u00a0While preliminary research points to a promising future for stem cell treatment for an assortment of ills, including ED, much work remains to be done before this form of therapy is ready for prime time.<\/p>\n

Fitness guru Ben Greenfield made news recently with reports that he had undergone stem cell injections to increase the size of his penis and hopefully to improve its functionality. Only days after the injection, he says, the main things he noticed were an improvement \u201cin erectile function, a significant increase in size in what we call ‘at rest,’ better orgasms, better blood flow — the anatomical manifestations cannot be denied.” According to a news release from U.S. Stem Cell Inc.<\/a>, Greenfield has undergone other stem cell treatments as well.<\/p>\n

Warning Bells Sounded<\/h3>\n

However, in an article posted at Forbes.com<\/a>, research scientist Victoria Forster questions the wisdom of this kind of experimentation with stem cells. She adds that based on her \u201cknowledge about stem cells, especially with regards to their involvement in cancer, I won\u2019t be injecting them into any part of my body anytime soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

As to the downside of stem cells, Forster noted that for roughly one-third of the world\u2019s population, these helpful cells can go haywire and become cancerous. In fact, she points out that some cancer therapies focus on pushing stem cells into maturity, a process known as differentiation. Until more is understood about this process, she cautions against stem cell therapy for what are essentially cosmetic purposes.<\/p>\n

Greenfield underwent treatment at the Sunrise, Florida, clinic of U.S. Stem Cell, which has been on the receiving end of warnings from the Food and Drug Administration. One such warning, issued in August 2017, accused the clinic of marketing stem cell products and therapies without FDA approval. The drug regulatory agency suggested that U.S. Stem Cell\u2019s operations could be \u201cputting patients at risk.\u201d<\/p>\n
