Eric Michaels<\/strong>: Why should I use sunscreen? What are the potential ramifications if I don’t?<\/p>\n

John Bercaw<\/strong>: Prolonged exposure to the sun (particularly for athletes who spend even longer in the outdoors than the common person) can help speed up skin aging and potentially develop skin cancer. Many sunscreens on the market address only one type of UV ray, when there are actually two distinctly damaging types for which you need to be protected: UVA and UVB rays. The sun\u2019s UVA rays leave a \u201cburn\u201d while UVB rays affect the skin at the cellular level, causing free radicals to develop and damage to cells (skin cancer). We call sunscreens and (clothing) that protect from both UVA and UVB rays \u201cbroad spectrum.\u201d Beyond Coastal is a leader in broad spectrum sunscreen; our formulas offer broad spectrum protection while also containing natural anti-oxidants to fight UV free radicals.<\/p>\n
