Stress-Related ED is on the Rise in Young Men<\/figcaption><\/figure> There ‘s a perception out there that ED is a disease that primarily affects men over the age of 40. A study published by The Journal of Sexual Medicine<\/a> found that one in four men seeking help for ED are actually under the age of 40 and almost half of them report that their condition is severe.<\/p>\n

These young men didn’t display common health markers found in men over the age of 40 like low testosterone and body mass. So what gives?<\/p>\n

Lifestyle choices<\/b><\/p>\n

The younger men in this study are more likely to take part in binge drinking, smoking cigarettes and doing drugs. One or all of these are likely to create a hormone imbalance making it difficult to achieve an erection.<\/p>\n

Severity differs<\/b><\/p>\n

With half of the men under 40 reporting their ED as “severe,” this warranted some specificity.<\/p>\n

Men under 40 comparatively to men over 40 will define severe differently. A younger man that may not have as much opportunity to have sex will often over emphasize the severity of the problem based on limited experience and confuse performance anxiety with ED.<\/p>\n

This doesn’t mean that men under 40 cannot develop ED, this simply means that they may not have had enough sexual experience to have a clear evaluation.<\/p>\n

Typically men over 40 have “been there and done that.” They know how it’s suppose to work and know if it’s not working properly.<\/p>\n

When to talk with a doctor<\/b><\/p>\n

Remember, if you are unable to get an erection once and a while, this is normal. If you’re not able to obtain and sustain an erection, you should consult with your physician.<\/p>\n

Treatment for ED is readily available and men across the globe have gotten their sexual health back on track, ultimately obtaining better quality of life.<\/p>\n
