How shock treatment may help ED<\/b><\/p>\n

Researchers at Rambam Medical Center in Israel did preliminary studies on animals and found that low-intensity shockwaves triggered the growth of new blood vessels.<\/p>\n

The team theorized that the same procedure could be used to treat men whose ED is caused by reduced blood flow. According to the lead researcher, Dr. Yoram Vardi, cardiovascular problems make up about 80% of patients with ED.<\/p>\n

The study results<\/b><\/p>\n

Twenty men volunteered to undergo the shock treatment, which used a small device to apply shockwaves at multiple sites on the penis. The men averaged 56 years old and all had mild to moderate ED for approximately three years.<\/p>\n

As Dr. Vardi explains, these are incredibly low shock waves\u2014nothing painful.<\/p>\n

Each of the five sites on the penis received about 300 shockwaves within three minutes. The treatments were given twice a week for three weeks, followed by three weeks of rest, then another three weeks of treatment.<\/p>\n

The participants reported no side effects and 15 of 20 men reported significant improvement for at least three months. Other studies are planned to help determine how long the treatment lasts.<\/p>\n

Why shock treatment doesn\u2019t work for all men<\/b><\/p>\n

Dr. Vardi is the first to point out that shock treatment for ED can\u2019t help everyone.<\/p>\n

The men in the study were chosen because their ED was due to blood flow issues, as opposed to ED caused by nerve, muscle or other problems. For those men, or men not willing to experiment with shock treatment, a prescription for Viagra, Cialis or Levitra may be the better option.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
