Does Medicare Cover Viagra?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The University of Chicago has found 44 percent of men ages 65 to 85 suffer with erectile dysfunction. With nearly half of men in this age range experiencing ED, it begs the question does Medicare cover Viagra?<\/p>\n

Medicare<\/strong><\/p>\n

Original Medicare (parts A and B) does not cover Viagra. In fact it doesn\u2019t cover any prescription drugs. Interestingly enough Medicare Part B covers penis pumps for ED under durable medical equipment though. A 20 percent cost will be charged to you with the exception of people with a Medigap plan and then there is no cost.<\/p>\n

Medigap is supplemental insurance for Medicare. Medigap does not cover Viagra either.<\/p>\n

Medicare Advantage Plans<\/strong><\/p>\n

A few Medicare Advantage Plans cover Viagra. Unfortunately, with this plan the cost of Viagra is expensive. It’s important to note that you should look to see if all of your medications are included in this plan not just Viagra.<\/p>\n

Medicare Part D<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is prescription drug coverage under Medicare. Viagra currently is not covered under Medicare Part D. This can change however. Check during Open Enrollment for updates on Viagra coverage.<\/p>\n

Private insurers for years have included penis pumps, Viagra and Cialis into there coverage.<\/p>\n

At age 65 it appears that when coverage for ED is needed most, insurance appears to be falling short.<\/p>\n

The cost of Viagra without insurance coverage<\/strong><\/p>\n

Research shows the cost of Viagra, without insurance, is hovers between $40-45 a pill. eDrugstore investigated the cost of the ED medication at three prominent pharmacies \u2013 CVS, Walgreens and Walmart – to see if there was a significant difference in price.<\/p>\n

CVS was the most expensive, with the price of one pill costing $44.70. Walgreens and Walmart both charged a little less at $42.10 a pill. You can take a look the results here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
