O\u2019Donnell\u2019s surgery<\/b><\/p>\n

O\u2019Donnell didn\u2019t go for the basic bariatric surgery, she opted for a vertical gastric sleeve procedure, where two-thirds of the stomach is removed.<\/p>\n

“It’s very different than when you think of bypass surgery. It’s newer,” the former talk show host explained to Access Hollywood<\/a>. “They remove two-thirds of your stomach, but everything else stays intact, and as a result of that, you can’t hold as much food.”<\/p>\n

Like gastric bypass, she still has to watch what she eats.<\/p>\n

“It’s a tool, it’s not an answer,” O’Donnell said of the procedure. “You can’t just get surgery and go ‘I’m done’ and keep eating the way you did. You have to change the way you eat, you have to exercise.”<\/p>\n

The surgery was prompted in part by a severe heart attack that O\u2019Donnell suffered in 2012. The 52-year-old actress has five children, four with ex-wife Kelli Carpenter and one with current wife, Michelle Rounds.<\/p>\n
