The emotional toll hair loss can take<\/strong><\/p>\n

When a guy notices his hair is thinning, it’s depressing, Hitzig says, who wrote \u201cHelp and Hope for Hair Loss: Questions and Answers about Rogaine, Restoration and Replacement.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that when men lose their hair, they feel like everybody\u2019s looking at the top of their head,\u201d says Hitzig. \u201cIt shakes their confidence.<\/p>\n

Some try over-the-counter treatments like Rogaine to halt the thinning process, but for many men these treatments don’t provide enough of a solution.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey start with the most benign [over-the-counter treatment] and they think it\u2019s working, but then six months later they get depressed again,\u201d says Hitzig. \u201cSomething finally triggers them to do something about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

When it comes to hair loss, early prevention is best. The second you start to see hair loss, you’ll want to take action. Rogaine works best in the early stages of hair loss, and so do medications like Propeicia.<\/p>\n

Propecia is a prescription medication that not only slows hair loss, but helps stimulate hair follicles and induce new hair growth.<\/p>\n

A hair transplant is also an option. A Chicago man opted for a NeoGraft treatment, which is a minimally invasive transplant procedure, and spoke with the Chicago Tribune about his experience.<\/p>\n

Get help<\/strong><\/p>\n

The best advice Hitzig can give a man who is battling hair loss it to seek help before the emotional toll takes over.<\/p>\n
