First to look at weight loss meds and PCOS<\/strong><\/p>\n

A study, conducted at a hospital in Greece, is one of the first studies to look at the effect of a weight loss drug on this condition.<\/p>\n

Dr. Konstantinos Tziomalos, the study\u2019s author, says Xenical helped women drop almost 13 percent of their body weight.<\/p>\n

“Xenical (Orlistat) combined with lifestyle changes induces substantial weight loss in women with PCOS, resulting in improvements in insulin resistance and beneficial effects on other established cardiovascular risk factors,” they wrote.<\/p>\n

The study, which followed 101 overweight or obese women with PCOS, offers some hope for women who struggle to shed unwanted pounds, according to MedPageToday<\/a>. The condition can also cause acne, increased facial hair, infrequent periods and infertility problems.<\/p>\n
