The high-flying explosion<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to LiveScience.com<\/a>, the explosion shot super-hot plasma into the atmosphere for about four hours. The plasma shot so high NASA experts say \u201cit could tower over 20 Earths.\u201d<\/p>\n

“Magnetic forces drove the flow of plasma, but without sufficient force to overcome the sun’s gravity much of the plasma fell back into the sun,” NASA officials wrote in an image description.<\/p>\n

“The length of the eruption extends about 160,000 miles out from the sun. With Earth about 7,900 miles in diameter, this relatively minor eruption is about 20 times the diameter of our planet.”<\/p>\n

Not the sun\u2019s first fiery episode<\/strong><\/p>\n

While the sheer size of this explosion is impressive, scientists say it’s not the biggest show the sun has put on. Still, it was enough to cause concern. A strong solar storm could effect satellite communications.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe concern of a strong solar flare in the direction of Earth is legit. The possibility that such a Sun burst could hit Earth could cause extensive damage as it would charge-up our electrical equipment and destroy them,\u201d Professor Jose Lopez, a physicist at Seton Hall University.<\/p>\n

In the end, no communication was interrupted.<\/p>\n

Future sun forecast<\/strong><\/p>\n

The sun is currently in an active period, according to Fox News. This year could mark frequent sun storms, but predicting these storms isn\u2019t easy.<\/p>\n
