Bears star receiver Brandon Marshall says he\u2019s heard some football players are taking Viagra. He claims players aren\u2019t taking it to enhance their playtime in the bedroom, but to enhance their playtime on the field.<\/p>\n

Anything to get an edge<\/strong><\/p>\n

Marshall says the competition is so fierce, he knows guys who will try anything.<\/p>\n

“I know guys, it’s such a competitive league, and guys try anything just to get that edge,” Marshall said. “I’ve heard of guys using Viagra, seriously, because the blood, it’s supposed to thin. I don’t know. Some crazy stuff. It’s kind of scary with some of these chemicals that are in some of these things, so you have to be careful.”<\/p>\n

NFL drug policy is strict<\/strong><\/p>\n

Marshall and other football players were making jokes about this ‘new-found sports enhancer,’ but noted the NFL wouldn\u2019t put up with it if it\u2019s actually true.<\/p>\n

“Any time you take anything over the counter, if you don’t approve it with your training room, you can get popped,” Marshall said. “Some of it’s fair, but some of it kind of puts you in a tough spot as a professional athlete. Because the only thing you’ll see is getting busted for PEDs, but it could be something over the counter for a little sickness. You just have to be on top of your Ps and Qs.”<\/p>\n

No studies to backup claim<\/strong><\/p>\n

Viagra is commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction and has not been proven to help athletes.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

According to the Huffington Post, there aren\u2019t any studies that suggest Viagra can improve athleticism. While Viagra has been approved for several conditions other than erectile dysfunction, including heart complications and prostate problems, there is no proof the little blue pill can boost activity on the gridiron.<\/p>\n

“No one has really tested it in football players doing exercise. Whatever benefit they think they’re getting is probably more psychological than anything,” Kevin Jacobs, an associate professor in the kinesiology and sport sciences department told the Huffington Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
