\u201cI know this profession is a tough one,\u201d he said.\u00a0 \u201cI fully expected to devote the better part of my life to it, at least at the beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n

Millen says working long hours just comes with the territory, but a new study shows Millen\u2019s non-stop schedule could lead to a big health problem.\u00a0 We\u2019re not talking about exhaustion; we\u2019re talking about a heart attack.<\/p>\n

A team from University College London found working an 11 hour day increases your chance of a heart attack by 66%, compared to those with a regular nine to five job.\u00a0 Researchers tracked the working habits of 6,000 civil servants over the course of 11 years.\u00a0 In all, 369 people died from heart disease.<\/p>\n

Those workaholics had a higher stress level, were less likely to eat right, and consumed more alcohol.\u00a0 All of these issues can increase the chances of heart problems.<\/p>\n

Researchers believe there is\u00a0a threshold.\u00a0 The study showed working a little overtime here or there didn\u2019t\u00a0increase health problems, but hitting eleven hours in one day did.<\/p>\n

\"\"Researchers hope the study encourages doctors to ask their patients about their daily work routine.\u00a0 They believe doctors should know this information to be on the lookout for any heart problems that may come up.<\/p>\n

Millen says the study is a little disturbing, but it is not going to change the way he works.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I want to be successful, I have to out work others in this profession,\u201d he said.\u00a0 \u201cIt might be dangerous to my health, but I\u2019m willing to roll the dice.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
