How Zyban Works<\/strong>
\nZyban (bupropion hydrochloride), approved by the FDA in May 1997, has one feature that sets it apart from other stop smoking aids, such as the patch or nicotine gum: it contains no nicotine. Bupropion hydrochloride is also the active ingredient in Wellbutrin, an anti-depressant. It isn’t understood exactly how bupropion works, but this ingredient in Zyban alters brain chemistry, resulting in a reduced interest in smoking. <\/p>\n

Nicotine cravings are diminished with Zyban, and people often find it easy to quit because smoking loses its appeal when Zyban is used. You can smoke while you take Zyban, but the number of cigarettes you smoke will probably taper off if you don’t quit completely. Many people also report that cigarettes can taste pretty lousy with Zyban in the system.<\/p>\n

Reasons That People Smoke<\/strong>
\nThere are three main reasons people smoke cigarettes.<\/p>\n

  1. Smoking satisfies some sort of oral fixation.<\/li>\n
  2. Cigarettes become loyal companions. They can be trusted to give us what we need – nicotine – when people and life let us down.<\/li>\n
  3. People become addicted, and end up with almost no choice but to smoke. Necessity born of addiction or imprisonment is always a good reason to do something.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Reasons Not to Smoke<\/strong>
    \nWe aren’t going to pull any punches here. The following is a list of reasons to throw cigarettes away<\/a>, no matter how hard it may be. You’re probably here because you want to quit smoking, and have probably heard many of these reasons. But they always bear repeating.<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. It can kill you. Smoking can cause you to die quickly from a heart attack, or it can give you to have a long, lingering painful death from various cancers that can riddle your body.<\/li>\n
    2. It makes your hair smell.<\/li>\n
    3. It makes your teeth yellow.<\/li>\n
    4. It can burn holes in your clothes and furniture.<\/li>\n
    5. It makes your house smell like a tavern.<\/li>\n
    6. It makes your breath repulsive.<\/li>\n
    7. It can increase the odds of your house burning down.<\/li>\n
    8. It can give you a sense of rejection when you’re at a business or function where smoking is not allowed and nobody else is a smoker.<\/li>\n
    9. It helps support the stock dividends of shareholders in tobacco companies who don’t know you, and turn a blind eye to their profits being increased by your death.<\/li>\n
    10. If you smoke, you are setting an example for your children, who will probably also try it.<\/li>\n
    11. If you smoke only one carton of name-brand cigarettes per week for 25 years, you’ll have wasted enough to put one of your kids through at least a year of higher education at a prestigious university. Two cartons, two years.<\/li>\n
    12. Nicotine is a stimulant and a depressant. Taking that into account, the notion of smoking to relax is really pretty silly.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      When you smoke, you also may be inhaling the following chemical agents:<\/p>\n

      • methanol (used as rocket fuel)<\/li>\n
      • acetone (used as paint stripper)<\/li>\n
      • naphthalene (found in mothballs)<\/li>\n
      • toluene (found in industrial solvent)<\/li>\n
      • ammonia (found in floor cleaner)<\/li>\n
      • butane (a type of light fuel)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Processed tobacco can also contain known cancer-causing substances such as naphthylamine, pyrene, urethane, vinyl chloride, toluidine, hydrogen cyanide, and all kinds of other things we can’t pronounce.
