Acyclovir is one of the medicines available which temporarily stops the spread of the virus, so the frequency of the outbreak can be kept at a bare minimum. \nYes, because it lessens the chance that you will get an upset stomach. Also make sure and drink plenty of water to ensure that your kidneys absorb the medicine properly.<\/p>\n
\nThe pill comes in 200, 400 and 800 mg tablets, prescribed at your doctor’s discretion.<\/p>\n
\nThe 200mg prescription comes in blue capsules. The 400 mg in white shield-shape tablets, the 800 mg in light-blue, oval tablets and a suspension of 200 mg\/5mL comes in an off-white colored tablet.<\/p>\n
\nYou have to finish the prescribed number of Acyclovir pills that your doctor advises you to take even if you start to feel better. The symptoms may go away after a few days of taking the medicine, but it does not mean that the infection is completely treated. During your initial outbreak the medicine has to be taken for about 7-10 days. If the sores have not healed after 10 days, the doctor will extend the duration of the treatment. For episodic treatment Acyclovir can be taken five times a day. If you are taking it as a suppressive treatment, intake can be two-four times a day. However, the dose for people with kidney problems can be lower or adjusted accordingly by the treating doctor.<\/p>\n
\nAcyclovir should only be taken as prescribed and directed by your doctor. Depending on the severity of your condition, your physician may advise different dosage levels.<\/p>\n
\nNausea, vomiting and diarrhea. While the side effects are usually mild, some of the long-term side effects may also include a minor skin rash.<\/p>\n
