Shrinking testicles<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to Men\u2019s Health<\/em>, shrinking testicles is one of the most common side effects of testosterone replacement therapy.<\/p>\n

Why does it happen?<\/p>\n

While you might imagine testosterone helping you to grow some \u201cbig balls,\u201d the truth is that there\u2019s a chemical reaction that makes them smaller. When you get extra testosterone put into the body, your pituitary gland will think there\u2019s plenty, so it will stop supplying luteinizing hormone (to tell your testicles to produce more testosterone) and follicle stimulating hormone (to get your body to produce sperm).<\/p>\n

Since your testicles think they don\u2019t need to produce sperm, they start shrinking. No big deal if you don\u2019t plan to have any more kids. But don\u2019t assume it can be reversed, as long-term testosterone therapy may reduce your chances of getting back to a normal sperm production rate.<\/p>\n

Swollen feet and ankles<\/strong><\/p>\n

The hormones raging through pregnant women aren\u2019t the only ones that can make feet and ankles swell.<\/p>\n

Testosterone causes your body to retain fluid, especially if you\u2019re getting a big dose in one session (vs. reduced dosages in daily treatments).<\/p>\n

Enlarged breasts<\/strong><\/p>\n

Known as gynecomastia, testosterone-induced breast enlargement is a rarer side effect but it does happen.<\/p>\n

Testosterone converts some of the hormone into estradiol, a form of estrogen. If you\u2019ve already got more breast tissue than most men, the testosterone supplement could trigger the growth of breast tissue. But again, it\u2019s quite rare.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
