New Study Looks at ED, Cialis and Prostate Cancer<\/figcaption><\/figure>Erectile dysfunction is a common side effect for cancer patients. Radiation treatment causes blood flow problems, which can make it difficult for men to get or keep an erection.<\/p>\n

Typically, men suffering with ED are prescribed medications like Cialis. <\/p>\n

Researchers decided to give prostate cancer patients Cialis to see if it could prevent ED from setting in, but results showed Cialis made little difference.<\/p>\n

About the study<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Mayo Clinic performed a study with 242 men in the early stages of prostate cancer. <\/p>\n

Some men received a placebo and others received Cialis. They began taking the pills within the first week of radiation treatment.<\/p>\n

Results showed 79 percent of men taking Cialis were able to maintain an erection compared to 74 percent of men taking the placebo \u2013 not a significant difference. After a year, 72 percent of men with Cialis were able to maintain an erection and 71 percent of men with the placebo.<\/p>\n

Background on prostate cancer<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prostate cancer is one of the most common types of cancers<\/a> that occur in men. <\/p>\n

According to the Robert Institute, almost 70,000 men are diagnosed with a malignant tumor and 12,000 of them die each year.<\/p>\n

Erectile dysfunction, as mentioned earlier, is a common problem in men with prostate cancer. The Journal of the American Medical Association says 40 percent of men going through radiation therapy experience ED.<\/p>\n

Background on Cialis<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cialis is a medication that’s commonly prescribed to treat erectile dysfunction. <\/p>\n

The medication comes in two versions, one that’s taken on-demand and one that’s taken daily. The medication improves blood flow to the penis so men can get and keep an erection when stimulated.<\/p>\n
