The new store is called weGrow, and it\u2019s a small part of the huge new pot business.<\/p>\n

California, as you may know, was the first state to legalize medical marijuana, in 1996. And last year, the state almost passed Proposition 19, which would have allowed anyone to possess one ounce of marijuana, and grow marijuana, for personal use. The proposition was voted down by a margin slimmer than 54 to 46 percent.<\/p>\n

But that hasn\u2019t stopped companies from investing millions of dollars to take advantage of the lucrative marijuana business in California, as well as the other 14 states (plus the District of Columbia) that have legalized medical marijuana.<\/p>\n

The new store near Sacramento is called weGrow, and the employees at the 10,000-foot facility will help you buy whatever you need to grow pot, as long as you show proof that a doctor has recommended medipot for you. Otherwise you can just walk into the store or go online and buy lighting equipment or nutrients like CANNA RHIZOTONIC that will help stimulate the growth of cannabis, or other more modest plants.<\/p>\n

As you might imagine, weGrow does not offer cannabis itself (although it does have young plants on display that must be removed before they produce buds), or any of the mechanisms with which you might smoke it. But those items are also readily available in any number of eclectic stores in just about any state. weGrow even offers classes in the cultivation of marijuana, for qualified medical applicants.<\/p>\n

\"weGrow There are also companies that sell medical marijuana drinks, such as Canna Cola, as well as food spiked with marijuana, like Cannabis Catering. The latter company was on hand for the weGrow grand opening. Nothing more than sausage and peppers were in the omelettes, however.<\/p>\n

Although medical marijuana has been passed in nearly one-third of the states in the U.S., it is still considered to be illegal by the federal government, of course. Raids and seizures are still somewhat common, even in states that have legalized medipot. However, in 2009, the Department of Justice<\/a> stated medical marijuana would not be a law enforcement priority.Not long after that, the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) announced formally in July, 2010 that patients treated at its hospitals and clinics are allowed to use medical marijuana if the substance is legal in the states in which they receive treatment. Veterans had fought for that right for many years, and the DVA eventually agreed to defer to the states instead of abiding by federal policies.<\/p>\n

Medical marijuana continues to gain support. According to a Gallup poll released in October 2010, 46 percent of Americans approve of legalization, the highest percentage ever recorded.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
