Researchers attributed the high rate of sexual dysfunction to the close relationship of the bony pelvic ring and the soft tissues that surround it.<\/p>\n

Surgery Can Cause Added Damage<\/h3>\n

Ironically, surgical repair of the pelvic fracture can further exacerbate problems of sexual function because of the damage it may cause to adjacent structures.<\/p>\n

A small-scale Chinese study, published in the \u201cChinese Journal of Traumatology,\u201d<\/a> reached conclusions similar to those of the English study about the link between pelvic trauma and male sexual dysfunction.<\/p>\n

Traumatic injury to the perineum — the area being the anus and the scrotum in men — can also lead to erection problems, according to an article posted at Prostate.net<\/a>. Housed beneath the skin of the perineum is the pudendal canal, also known as Alcock\u2019s canal, through which pass the nerves and arteries supplying the penis.<\/p>\n

Traumatic injury to the perineum often results in damage to these delicate nerves and blood vessels, which in turn can lead to erection problems.<\/p>\n
