Generic Levitra Is Here. How Much Can You Save?

Expect to save nearly $8 per 10-milligram dose by choosing generic vardenafil over Levitra. Vardenafil hydrochloride, the generic equivalent of Levitra, becomes the third popular ED medication to go generic. While somewhat less expensive than the brand-name drug, vardenafil is likely to fall further in price when and if more competition enters the market.

The wait for generic alternatives to Viagra and other popular erectile dysfunction medications has been a long one, but these products are finally making their way to market.

Sildenafil citrate, Viagra’s generic equivalent, made its long-awaited debut near the end of 2017 and was joined in September 2018 by tadalafil, the generic equivalent of Cialis. The most recent addition to the selection of generic ED drugs available is vardenafil hydrochloride, which was introduced on November 1, 2018, by Zydus Pharmaceuticals (USA) Inc.

While the number of generic ED medications are still quite limited, they do represent the availability of somewhat more affordable alternatives to popular ED drugs. It’s customary for the first drugmaker that wins Food and Drug Administration approval to market a generic medication to enjoy a 180-day period of market exclusivity. It is usually only after that six-month period that rival generic contenders can then enter the market, increasing competition and generally forcing prices lower.

Given these realities, current prices for vardenafil hydrochloride are not sharply lower than those for comparable amounts of brand-name Levitra, as you can see from the table below. It shows current prices for both Levitra and its generic alternative at major retail chains CVS, Walgreens, and Walmart, as well as prices posted by longtime online facilitator

The table compares these companies’ posted prices for 10 20-milligram tablets of brand-name Levitra with their prices for a comparable amount of vardenafil hydrochloride. The price per 10-milligram dose assumes each of the 20-milligram tablets is divided with a pill splitter to produce two equal doses of 10 milligrams each. Among all the listed retailers, the average price for a 10-milligram dose of Levitra is $28.56. Substituting generic vardenafil, you’ll pay an average of $20.84 for a 10-milligram dose, for an average savings of $7.72 per dose.

You will note that eDrugstore’s prices for both Levitra and vardenafil are higher than those posted at the major brick-and-mortar retailers. However, these prices don’t reflect the added values offered by the online facilitator. These include a free pill splitter with every first order as well as a complimentary online consultation with a licensed U.S. physician for customers who don’t yet have a prescription. The latter is a major savings in both money and time. And, of course, having the medications shipped discreetly to your front door also represents a significant savings.
