Viagra Prices at Costco: How Much You Can Expect to Pay

Costco warehouse clubs offer a limited selection of brand-name and generic erectile dysfunction medications. Here’s a brief overview of Costco’s prices for ED drugs.

With more than 770 Costco warehouse clubs worldwide, Costco Wholesale Corporation is a major player in retail operations. Its 2017 worldwide retail sales of just over $93 billion put Costco in fourth place worldwide after Walmart, Kroger Company, and Amazon.

Among the wide array of products available in Costco’s membership-only warehouse clubs are prescription drugs, including several popular drugs prescribed for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Among the ED drugs available at Costco are Viagra, Levitra, and Staxyn, as well as Viagra’s generic equivalent, sildenafil citrate.

As you can see from the accompanying table, Costco’s prices for these drugs are relatively low. However, to get those prices, you’ll have to enroll annually as a Costco member (there were more than 94 million worldwide as of September 2018) and brave the lines to drop off and pick up your prescriptions.

The recommended starting dose for Viagra is 50 milligrams, which can be adjusted upward or downward if necessary. However, that dose works for the vast majority of men with ED. To maximize your savings when buying Pfizer’s iconic little blue pill, it’s best to purchase 100-milligram tablets that can then be split in half to yield two 50-milligram doses. Since retailers usually charge the same price for all dose sizes of Viagra (and most other medications as well), buying the higher-strength tablet and splitting it essentially gives you two doses for the price of one.

At Costco, you’ll pay $762.09 for 10 Viagra tablets of 100 milligrams each. Split them in half to yield 20 50-milligram doses that will cost you $38.10 apiece. Costco’s price for generic sildenafil citrate is very low — only $35.36 for 10 tablets of 100 milligrams each, which puts the price per 50-milligram dose at a staggeringly low $1.77.

Levitra and Staxyn have the same active ingredient, vardenafil hydrochloride. Levitra is a regular oral medication that you take with a glass of water. Staxyn, however, is an orosoluble tablet that dissolves quickly in the mouth and can be taken without water.

The recommended starting dose for both Levitra and Staxyn is 10 milligrams. You can save on Levitra by buying 20-milligram tablets and splitting them, but Staxyn is available only in orosoluble tablets of 10 milligrams and should not be split.

Prices for Levitra, Staxyn

Costco’s price for 10 20-milligram tablets of Levitra is $558.47. Split those 10 tablets in half to produce 20 10-milligram doses at a cost of $27.92 each. Ten 10-milligram tablets of Staxyn cost $363.82 and, as previously noted, cannot be split. This puts the cost per dose at $36.38.

While Costco’s prices for the ED drugs it carries are attractively low, they must be weighed against some of the disadvantages of buying from Costco. First, you’ll need to buy an annual membership, which currently runs from $60 to $120.

Also, the Costco chain is not yet big enough to have outlets located in every neighborhood, so you may have to drive several miles to reach the Costco closest to you. That will take time and burn up gasoline. And Costco stores are popular, which means that you may have to wait in line to drop off and pick up prescriptions.
