The penalty for selling fake erectile dysfunction drugs
The 54-year-old was also ordered to pay nearly $10,000 to an erectile dysfunction drug company for losses related to his sales of the fake erectile dysfunction drugs. He was originally facing up to five years in custody or up to $250,000 in fines after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy.
In early 2018, authorities searched self-storage units near the Mexican border and found more than $250,000 in counterfeit and unapproved drugs. They also found ledgers documenting sales of the fake erectile dysfunction drugs and other unlicensed drugs over several years.
The man was also selling Neo-Melubrina, an over-the-counter pain reliever sometimes called “Mexican aspirin.” The drug was banned in 1977 because it causes a condition that significantly decreases a type of white blood cell.
“This office is committed to protecting the health and safety of the citizens in our district by keeping counterfeit and unapproved prescription drugs off the market,” says U.S. Attorney Adam L. Braverman, “and by prosecuting individuals who seek to profit from illegal distribution of such drugs.”
Getting legal Viagra in the U.S.
In the United States, men with erectile dysfunction can get a prescription for Viagra from their medical provider. This helps ensure that the Viagra they’re getting is pure and effective, which is important, as much of the fake Viagra on the Black Market is not only dangerous, but also potentially lethal. Some fake Viagra has been found to contain detergent, road paint and even arsenic.
Requiring men to get a prescription for Viagra from their doctor also helps ensure that they discuss health conditions, possible underlying causes of erectile dysfunction and current medications that may interact with Viagra.
Men also have the opportunity to discuss the possible side effects of Viagra, which are usually quite minor.
