Millions of people feel as though they can’t function without their coffee in the morning, but what is it about that cup of joe that really makes people more productive? Is it the caffeine? Does that pop our eyes awake so we are more alert at work? Or is it all a habit that we’re all convinced really helps but doesn’t?
Hooked on coffee
“I have no idea what it is about this cup of coffee,” Mark Munson said as he walked into work, “But I know that I wouldn’t make it through the day without it.”
His coworker Sarah Miller added a similar thought. “Every morning like clockwork I get up and shower and pour myself a cup of coffee to go,” she said. “If one of those things doesn’t happen, I don’t function.”
The survey results, who’s hooked on coffee the most?
The survey didn’t dive into the chemical make up of coffee, but it does rank the professions “hooked” on coffee.

Coffee involved in health studies
Aside from being a morning ritual, coffee has been the subject of many health studies. Some health experts believe a cup a day could ward off prostate cancer in men. The sugared up drink may also trigger brain problems, according to another study. Whether it has health benefits or not, according to the survey of about 5,000 people, coffee is a main stay in their life.
